As a landmark property in Hyatt's Greater China portfolio, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen's 37F Italian restaurant and 38F signature bar represent the pinnacle of the hotel's F&B experience. Yet shortly after opening, the original gas fireplaces exposed a critical flaw — even with double-layer heat-resistant glass, surface temperatures remained dangerously uncontrolled, posing a direct burn risk to dining guests.
The flame aesthetics were equally disappointing. The gas flames were faint, unstable, and utterly incapable of delivering the warmth and visual drama expected of a five-star venue. The fireplaces — installed at significant cost — had become nothing more than unusable architectural ornaments: unsafe to light, unimpressive to look at.
